Weighing a semaglutide care offer
Know what happens after the first decision.
Ask about later care while you are still discussing the first visit. Put the review plan and the way to ask questions in writing.
Ask who reviews progress and problems
- Who reviews how I am doing?
- How will we decide whether the plan still fits?
- How do I reach someone between scheduled visits?
Keep in mind The semaglutide (Wegovy) label calls for ongoing checks of blood sugar in people with diabetes, a blood-sugar condition.
It also calls for checks of resting heart rate, how fast the heart beats while a person is at rest.
Ask how a change would be planned
- What would we discuss if I wanted to stop?
- What happens if the medicine or care becomes too costly?
- What would the longer-term plan look like?
Keep in mind In the STEP 1 follow-up study, about two-thirds of the weight participants had lost came back during the year following the end of semaglutide treatment.
That study involved a smaller follow-up group and does not decide how long an individual needs treatment.
Keep the plan easy to pass on
- Ask for the treatment goal and review plan in plain words.
- Store your medicine information together with the name of your care provider and the pharmacy name.
- Ask how your records would reach a new doctor or nurse if your care changed.
Keep in mind Add unresolved questions to your own notes. Bring them to the next conversation rather than trying to remember them later.
