Weighing a semaglutide care offer

Match the product to the treatment goal.

Ask the person treating you to finish this thought: the problem we are trying to treat is… Then ask how the proposed medicine fits.

Ask for a clear treatment goal

  • Is this being proposed for weight, blood sugar or another condition?
  • What would show us whether this plan helps?

Keep in mind On September 26, 2026, semaglutide (Wegovy) had approval for long-term weight management.

Approval for semaglutide (Ozempic injection) covered adults with type 2 diabetes, which affects blood sugar.

At that check, approval for Ozempic injection did not include weight loss.

Ask whether the use is on the label

  • Does the official product information cover this use?
  • If the use is off-label, why are you proposing it for me?

Keep in mind An off-label use treats a purpose beyond those officially approved for that medicine; the medicine itself has approval.

At the September 26, 2026 check, a prescriber could legally use an approved medicine for an off-label purpose.

Give the same goal to the insurer

  • What health condition would be named on the request to my insurance plan?
  • Does the plan pay for this product to treat that condition?

Keep in mind As of September 26, 2026, Medicare could pay for semaglutide for some purposes other than weight loss. That did not guarantee payment. The plan still had to include the medicine on its covered list and give any required permission before paying.
